One of the easiest ways to create storage space and illusion of larger space is by using open shelves. Consider creating floor to ceiling open shelves. You can make it so that the shelves are placed at different intervals to create a more interesting look. You should also use vertical dividers at different intervals.
You can either color the whole shelf in white to create an illusion of more space. If space is not the concern, you can paint different sized shelves in different colors to create a more dramatic look.
Use some boxes to simply place decorative items to enhance the look.
